A wind farm in Norway has been forced to partially close its activity due to manufacturing defects in the blades of several Siemens Gamesa wind turbines, according to the project operator.

Specifically, the 160 megawatt (MW) Odal wind farm has 13 of the 14 turbines of the SG 5.0-145 model out of service due to these failures.

In addition, there are two other turbines out of operation due to other errors/damages that are being rectified, said Odal Wind, the plant operator.

It is expected that the repair work on the blades will resume after Easter and that the problems in all the affected components will be corrected throughout the year to return to normal operation.

Last year, Siemens Energy announced quality problems in Siemens Gamesa's 4.X and 5.X wind turbine models, which led to losses of more than €4.5 billion in its 2023 fiscal year and the German State I had to come to his rescue.

Thus, last November, Siemens Energy agreed to aid in which the German Government will guarantee 7.5 billion euros of a total amount of 12 billion euros of guarantees, of which 11 billion euros will be provided to the company through a consortium of banks.

Siemens Energy began a technical review of these turbine models of its subsidiary Siemens Gamesa and decided to suspend their marketing until a new date.
