The construction sector is looking for female talent, which only represents 11.1% of the workforce, to cover the 700,000 direct and indirect jobs that will remain vacant in the coming years as a result of the generational change, according to the consulting firm Catenon, which is dedicated to the search for professionals.

The perception of the hardness of the work on site, the distrust of end clients regarding the training of women in some trades and the stereotypes created that the construction site 'is not a job for women' make it difficult to incorporate women on the job site. as trades personnel, has denounced the director of Catenon's Infrastructure Division, Carmen Caro.

The majority of women in the sector do not work on site, but have higher education in engineering, accounting for six out of ten, followed by professionals with administrative and financial management functions, according to the report 'Women in the Sector of Construction' of the Construction Labor Foundation.

Women represented 11.1% of the workforce in 2022, with a total of 147,337 employed after increasing the number of professionals in the sector, but the presence continues to be a minority and marked by stereotypes, which "will be dismantled" when the presence of the professionals on site, Carmen Caro has stressed.

Catenon highlights that the sector presents multiple opportunities for future development for women in this field derived from "the challenges posed by digitalization" and the industrialization of construction, where the role of women will generate a great source of talent.
