Fire hazard: Umbrellas sold at Costco are being recalled

Umbrellas sold exclusively at Costco are being recalled due to a fire and burn hazard.

Due to a risk of overheating lithium-ion batteries, Health Canada has recommended that consumers discontinue use of the SunVilla Brand 10ft (3m) Umbrella with LED Lights.

Customers can return the product to a Costco warehouse for a full refund.

The products affected by this recall were sold between December 2020 and May 2022, the company said.

These umbrellas feature a solar panel and have a black cover, branded “YEEZE” or “YEEZE 1” that protects the back of the solar light.

“As of June 9, 2022, the company received one report of battery overheating and umbrella catching fire in Canada, but no reports of injuries,” the federal agency said in its notice.
