Industrial production rises 4.1% in February, its largest increase in the last year

The General Industrial Production Index (IPI) rose 4.1% in February compared to the same month in 2023, a rate one tenth higher than the previous month and its highest year-on-year increase since March 2023, as reported this Friday the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With the rebound in February, industrial production has had two consecutive months of year-on-year increases.

In February, industrial production was boosted by all sectors. The largest increases occurred in non-durable consumer goods (6.6%) and capital goods (5.3%), followed by intermediate goods (3.9%), durable consumer goods (2, 8%) and energy (0.1%).

Corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, industrial production registered an increase of 1.5% in February compared to the same month last year, expanding the increase in January by 1.2 points.

In monthly terms (February over January) and within the series corrected for seasonality and calendar, industrial production rose 0.7%, its largest monthly increase since March 2023, when it increased 1.4%.
