Finally?

The Lehigh Valley looks like it's in line for its first accumulating snowfall of winter 2016-17, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service on Tuesday afternoon upped its forecast accumulation total for the mid-week storm from 2 to 6 inches to the potential for 6 inches or more in the Lehigh Valley region.

A winter storm watch is in effect Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon across eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey.

Included in watch area are Lehigh, Northampton, Bucks, Monroe, Warren and Hunterdon counties.

"A wintry mix will overspread the area from the west Wednesday night," the watch states. "The event will likely begin as snow north of the I-78 corridor.

"Elsewhere rain will change over to snow from northwest to southeast late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

"Sleet may mix briefly during the transition from rain to snow. The snow could be heavy at times late Wednesday night and Thursday morning before tapering off from west to east during the afternoon Thursday."

The weather service says the storm brings the potential for the heaviest snowfall so far this season for the I-78 and I-95 corridors, with snow expected from midnight Wednesday through 4 p.m. Thursday.

Visibility could be poor at times and travel, dangerous due to heavy snow, the advisory reads: "Significant impacts to the Thursday morning rush are likely."

Temperatures are forecast to fall from the upper 30s and lower 40s at the onset into the lower 30s by Thursday morning, and winds are forecast at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
