Madrid taxi drivers will be able to apply a 15% discount on pre-contracting the service from January 1

MADRID, 17 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

From January 1, Madrid taxi drivers will be able to apply a 15 percent discount on the pre-contracting of the service, the Environment and Mobility delegate, Borja Carabante, has advanced in the branch commission.

The reports are currently being finalized. Carabante, to a question from Vox, has defended that in the municipal government they are committed to "giving more flexibility to the taxi, rather than regularizing the VTC".

This translates into the "removal of obstacles to taxis, giving them aid of up to 8.2 million euros for the renovation of cars and direct aid for revenue losses due to Covid", together with a "consensual and well-received ordinance, except for the left. Carabante has insisted on flexibility to promote "healthy competition."

The issue has come to the commission at the hands of the mayor of Vox Fernando Martínez Vidal, who has advocated the principle of free competition and, to underline, that they have nothing against the VTC. "But the taxi is not happy because the City Council does not treat them as they deserve", lamented Martínez Vidal.

The Vox councilor has indicated some of the requirements that taxi drivers have to meet, but not the VTCs, "such as turning off the meter when their hours end", together with the fact that there are VTCs "in taxi ranks that do not comply with the regulations of Community transport. "Free competition is only good if the taxi can compete on equal terms," Martínez Vidal has settled.
