The first vice president and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, assured in the control session this Wednesday that the recent resignation of the general director of the Plan and the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, Jorge Fabra, was for "personal reasons."

Faced with criticism from the PP, which recalled that there have been three people responsible for European funds in just over two years, the vice president has normalized the matter and pointed out that "it is evident" that senior officials resign with the passing of the year. time and in the case of Fabra it has been for personal reasons.

The Minister of Finance has highlighted that under Fabra's direction, 85% of the funds incorporated into Spain were authorized, for an amount of 75,000 million euros, of which 22,500 million are online.

"I want to thank the work of Fabra and the rest of the officials and technicians of European funds," emphasized Montero, who has assured that due to their work Spain has surpassed 21 million employed people and has a projection of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of two times higher than that of Germany, France or Italy.

However, the PP deputy secretary of Economy, Juan Bravo, believes that the resignation is due to the poor management of resources.

"Could they have resigned because those responsible are aware that the funds do not reach the productive fabric or that the Spaniards do not attend the calls because of the mess of papers that you have created?" he asked amid criticism of the Minister of Finance.

In her response, María Jesús Montero reproached Bravo for saying that the PP went on a "pilgrimage to Brussels" so that the Next Generation funds would not reach Spain. In addition, the minister recalled the resignation of the former social policy advisor of the Community of Madrid, Alberto Reyero, who left office after denouncing the situation of Madrid residences in the pandemic.
