School-age children are getting hit with the flu this year more than any other group of New Yorkers.

That's according to data on laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza tracked by the state Health Department. As of the week ended Feb. 4, 7,538 children age 5-17 had the flu this season, representing more than a quarter of all flu cases.

Medical practitioners suspect the cause is that fewer kids were immunized this season, though data on vaccination rates are not available.
