Russia will ban gasoline exports for six months starting March 1

MADRID, 27 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian Government has approved a temporary ban on gasoline exports for a period of six months starting next March 1, according to Russian media.

However, according to RBC, this temporary ban on the export of gasoline does not apply to the volumes agreed for supplies to countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (UEEA), Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Abjasia and Osetia del Sur.

The decision approved by the Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin, responds to the proposal raised by the Deputy Prime Minister, Alexander Novak, in a letter dated February 21, where he pointed out the imminent increase in demand in the domestic market.

"To level out the strong demand for petroleum products, it is necessary to take measures that help stabilize prices in the domestic market for petroleum products," Novak then suggested.

The Russian Government already imposed a temporary ban on the export of gasoline and diesel in September due to the sharp increase in wholesale prices, although it lifted the veto in November 2023.
