Teen burglars scared off -- and leave their scooters behind: police

Two would-be burglars didn't get anything from a Jersey City home, but they did manage to lose their rides.

The teens tried to break into a Cambridge Avenue home Monday night, but they were scared off when the residents caught them entering through a rear window, police said.

A man and his girlfriend were in their bedroom at 9:50 p.m. when they heard a noise coming from the rear window of the apartment, police said. When the 31-year-old man saw that the window was being opened, he moved the blinds and saw a teen trying to get into the apartment, police were told.

The would-be burglars fled, one south on Cambridge and the other west through the parking lot of the Burger King at 330 Central Ave., police said. In their haste, the two crooks left behind two scooters in the rear of the building, police said.

One of the teens was described as having a flat, high-top haircut and wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. The other was wearing a black cap, black t-shirt, black and gray basketball shorts and a gray backpack.
