The number of new commercial companies shot up 13.1% in January compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching a total of 10,716 companies, its highest figure in this month since 2008, according to data released this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
With the rebound in January, business creation returns to positive rates after having registered a year-on-year decline of close to 4% in December 2023.
For the constitution of the 10,716 companies created in January, more than 912.7 million euros were subscribed, which is 65% more than in the same month of 2023, while the average capital subscribed, which stood at 85,176 euros, increased 45.9%.
For its part, the dissolution of companies remained unchanged: 3,936 companies closed in January, the same as in the same month of 2023. In this way, each day of January 127 companies closed.
Of the 3,936 companies that were dissolved in January, 86.3% did so voluntarily, 8.8% due to a merger with other companies and the remaining 4.9% for other reasons.
18.5% of the commercial companies that were created in January were dedicated to commerce and 16.9% to real estate, financial and insurance activities. Regarding the dissolved companies by main economic activity, 21.3% belonged to commerce and 17.2% to construction.
For its part, the number of commercial companies that increased capital increased by 5.4% in January in an interannual rate, up to 3,634 companies. The capital subscribed in these increases exceeded 2,702 million euros, 3.1% lower than that of January 2023, while the average capital was 743,548 euros, 8.1% less.
ARAGON AND NAVARRA LEAD THE INCREASES IN BUSINESS CREATION
The communities that created the greatest number of companies in January were Madrid (2,143 companies), Catalonia (2,117) and Andalusia, where 1,909 companies were created.
The regions that formed the fewest companies in the first month of the year were La Rioja (36), Cantabria (72) and Navarra (122).
According to Statistics, a total of 15 communities created more companies last January than in the same month of 2023 and only two presented year-on-year decreases: La Rioja (-20%) and Cantabria (-2.7%).
The biggest increases in the incorporation of companies were carried out by Aragon (40.4%), Navarra (31.2%), Murcia (26.9%) and the Basque Country (26.3%), while the most moderate advances were They occurred in Madrid (4.9%) and Castilla y León (9.7%).
