MADRID, 16 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The monthly price of packaged telecommunications offers in Spain, which include telephony, broadband and, in some cases, also pay television, fell between 4% and 8% in 2022 compared to the previous year, according to data from the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC).

In this way, the 'packs' that include fixed and mobile telephony and fixed and mobile broadband, called 'quadruple packages', closed last year with an average price of 42.9 euros per month, which means a reduction of 7, 93% in relation to the 46.6 euros at which they stood at the end of 2021.

Meanwhile, the so-called 'quintuple packages', which include pay television in addition to the above, ended 2022 with an average monthly price of 77 euros, that is, 3.87% less than the 80.1 euros at the end of 2021.

Thus, the quadruple packages became cheaper, on average, by almost four euros per month (44.4 euros less per year), while the price of the quintuple packages fell by about three euros (about 36 euros per year).

The CNMC data also indicates that 40% of Spanish households contracted fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile broadband and pay television services (quintuple packages), while 29.8% have a quadruple package.

Meanwhile, 14.5% of households only have contracted mobile phone and internet services, while 5.9% only have telephony. To this is added 9.5% of households that have "other combinations" contracted.

"Regarding the penetration of electronic communications services, pay television continued its upward trend and is already present in almost 50% of Spanish homes. On the contrary, fixed telephony was the only service that was losing followers: its penetration stood at 73.3%, 3.1% less than the previous year," the CNMC highlighted.

According to the study carried out by the organization, the main reason why Spanish households contracted pay television was that the operator offered it together with the rest of the telecommunications services (22%), followed by interest in series channels ( 16.8%) or by broadcasting sporting events (14.5%).

"Fiber is already the favorite technology when it comes to connecting to the Internet in our country, regardless of the size of the population," added the CNMC.
