A man from Waterloo was charged Thursday, at the Granby courthouse, with the second degree murder of a woman killed on June 13 in Stukely-Sud.

In addition to being charged with second degree murder, Jean-Philippe Coutu faces charges of death threats, intimidation and break and enter.

The 41-year-old man was arrested as he tried to enter a residence on Robert-Savage Road, in Stukely-Sud. Following information provided by the suspect to the police, the lifeless body of a 66-year-old woman was found in a wooded area near the residence.

Detained since his arrest, Jean-Philippe Coutu will return to court on August 22.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is also involved in the case since a few minutes before the murder, patrol officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) intercepted the suspect for a violation of the highway safety code. The individual would then have "made incoherent and threatening remarks" before leaving the premises". The BEI is continuing its investigation.
