If Amazon only rings once more: with a key named service, company wants to simplify delivery of orders by opening Amazon's own delivery service to customer's door. To do this, customers need to get a smart door lock and Amazon's first own surveillance camera. Amazon promises that any misuse is impossible.

The service is only available to Prime customers and only in USA for time being. For a price of 250 US dollar upwards re is a smart door lock of manufacturer Yale or Kwikset including assembly. In addition, Amazon's newly introduced cloud Cam is mandatory.

Launch in 37 US cities

From 8 November 2017 key service will be offered in 37 U.S. cities. These are cities directly supplied by Amazon's own delivery service. For key, Amazon only wants to use its own suppliers.

When Prime customers carry out a so-called in-house order, y are informed on day of delivery, in which four-hour time window delivery takes place. Immediately before delivery, re is also a reference for customer. This can n be checked by monitoring camera to see if delivery runs smoothly. The surveillance camera must of course be positioned in such a way that front door is in camera's view.

Amazon opens front door from cloud

The driver itself has no access code or similar for door lock.

The door is n opened centrally from Amazon, and security camera is activated. As soon as door is open, driver has instruction to only open it minimally and to shut down package near door. If possible, messengers should not even enter apartment. After that, suppliers are instructed to close door again.

If messenger forgets to close door

Once package has been turned off, buyer receives a notification and can n use a security camera to check if package is closed and door is locked. He can watch a video of entire delivery process. If driver has forgotten to close door, buyer can see this, but is not necessarily actively informed about it.

Worksy, must refore rely on no mistakes to happen. Orwise, he risks that unauthorized persons can gain access to apartment and clean it up. And when thieves masquerade, surveillance camera is not likely to help much, especially since it also only accepts full HD resolution and not yet in 4k, such as Nest Surveillance camera cam IQ.

Cloud Cam only useful with subscription

With newly featured surveillance camera Cloud Cam, Amazon is rising to market with security cameras. The cloud Cam is only available in USA for time being and costs 120 US dollars. With help of motion sensors, camera should only strike alarm when movements are detected. The camera image can be viewed with Alexa-capable displays such as Echo Show or echo spot on acclamation.

If customers want to irritate camera's capabilities, additional paid subscriptions are required. The basic package allows you to watch one week's video clips for up to three cameras and costs $70 per year. Those who want more will pay up to 200 US dollars per year. It is not known when key and cloud Cam are also offered in Germany.
