The Spanish government has decided to discontinue regional government in Barcelona to head of government Carles Puigdemont. This is what Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced after an extraordinary meeting of Council of Ministers in Madrid. This will put autonomous region of Catalonia under control of central government. His own cabinet will take over permit of Catalan authorities, said Rajoy. The measures will only be effective after publication in Spanish Official Gazette.

Rajoy also announced dissolution of Catalan parliament. On 21 December re will be a choice of elections. "I have decided to call free, clean and lawful elections as soon as possible in order to restore democracy. We never wanted it to come that far, "said Rajoy.

In addition, Chief of Police of autonomous region of Catalonia will be dismissed, prime Minister said. It is a first action with aim of preventing previous leaders in region from furr "escalation of disobedience".

The Spanish Senate had previously cleared way for coercive measures. The Catalan parliament, by contrast, voted for a majority of Spain's independence. The Council of Ministers n met in Madrid.
