The day on which US President Trump recognized Jerusalem as capital of Israel is of its own importance for history of Turkey:

is editor-in-chief of Internet platform Özgürüz. He is now writing for Us Weekly about crisis in Turkey.

It was 100 anniversary of surrender of Jerusalem to British by Ottomans after y had lost re 30,000 men. This historical combination of symbolic significance led to particularly large protests in Turkey. The decision also has important consequences for Turkish domestic and foreign policy. In a rare coincidence, Palestinian question united all parties in Turkey in protest. Even if she was to break with Trump, to whom he had been striving for good relations, Erdoğan allows him at a time when, just like Netanyahu, he is harassing corruption investigations, changing agenda and becoming a "leader of Muslim world." However, re are some dark spots that may complicate this:

At his visit to Israel in 2005, Erdoğan did not respond to greeting "Welcome to Jerusalem, capital of Israel" by n Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. And in normalization agreement of 2016, after having been on brink of war with Israel, it was already capital of Jerusalem instead of Tel Aviv. Now that he is protesting, this agreement is being brought forth.

However, Erdoğan turned crisis into an opportunity and immediately called on heads of State of Organization for Islamic Cooperation to an extraordinary meeting in Istanbul, and in turn she is currently directing Turkey. Not even Trump's Jerusalem decision seems to be able to cement deep disagreements in Islamic world. Trump was likely to have built it when he signed decision of good conscience. However, weak protest of most of Islamic world's governments must not be understood as silence of this world. This standstill will ensure that, on Islamic territory, initiative will go from governments to organizations, and instead of diplomacy, street is going to speak. Reining in this protest will not be as easy as buying silence of oil sheiks. Winners will not be those who seek peace in Middle East, but radicals.
