Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that he would set up a message from his country in East Jerusalem: "With God's Will and God's permission, day is near, when we open our ambassadors re." The TürkischeGeneralkonsulat in Jerusalem is already being led by an ambassador.
Currently, Turkish Embassy is located in Tel Aviv, as are or foreign representations. It was not clear from Erdoğan's statement wher he wanted to set existing message or set up a second representation for Palestinian territories.
On Wednesday, at summit of Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) he initiated, Erdoğan called on international community to recognize occupied Jerusalem as capital of Palestine. He called Israel a "terrorist state" and described Jerusalem decision of US president Donald Trump as "provocative and unlawful." 57 Muslim states took part in meeting. In final declaration of Summit, y followed Erdoğan's call: "We proclaim that we recognize Palestinian State, whose capital is East Jerusalem."
Trump had announced a week and a half ago opposing recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel. This triggered not only riots and protests in Gaza Strip and West Bank, but also international outrage.
The Israelis Habenost conquered Jerusalem 1967 and declared all of Jerusalem to be ir ewigenund indivisible capital. The Palestinians, on or hand, claim East Jerusalem as capital of a future independent state. Internationally, status of Jerusalem is controversial.
In Indonesian capital Jakarta, AmSonntag protested about 80,000 people according to police figures. They called for boycott of Vonisraelischen and American products, should not reverse Trumpseine decision. Demonstrations also took places in Pakistani cities of Karachi and Lahore.
