MADRID, April 27, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Tent Partnership for Refugees (Tent), a global network of more than 300 companies committed to the economic integration of refugees, has today published data for Spain from its European survey that analyzes consumer perceptions of brands that hire refugees. The results show that Spanish consumers are in line with European trends in support of hiring refugees.

More than a year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 170,000 displaced Ukrainians have joined the 100,000 refugees that Spain is hosting.

Tent urges companies across Spain to step up as they believe they are in a unique position to help refugees and, by recruiting, training or mentoring refugees, they can play a critical role. when it comes to offering them a new beginning.

Likewise, the Spanish results of the European consumer survey indicate that:

These new results add to Tent's previous research and strengthen the business case for companies to integrate refugees.

"Hiring refugees has many benefits for the companies that hire them, but refugees often face great challenges when trying to find a job: the language barrier, not having social and professional networks, the lack of understanding of the labor market at the local level and, for Ukrainian refugee women in particular, greater domestic and childcare responsibilities", explains Amaia Elizalde, Director of Tent in Spain. "Tent's primary work is to help companies reduce these barriers so they can hire refugees on a large scale, and we are very much looking forward to supporting companies in Spain in their efforts to economically integrate refugees."

The Tent European Business Summit, to be held in June, will see large companies announce their corporate commitments to recruit and train tens of thousands of refugees from Ukraine and other parts of the world. Business leaders like ISS CEO Jacob Aarup-Andersen; the general director of Microsoft Poland, Dominika Bettman; the president of Adecco, Christophe Catoir; the president and CEO of PepsiCo, Ramón Laguarta; and former Unilever CEO Paul Polman join Chobani CEO and Tent founder Hamdi Ulukaya in co-sponsoring this summit and urgently calling on big business across Europe to make tangible commitments to support people refugees.

"European governments have stepped up to welcome Ukrainian women fleeing war, but now companies must do their part to help them find work and support themselves. This is the most important step to help refugees to integrate into their new community," said Hamdi Ulukaya, founder of Tent and CEO of Chobani. "That is the purpose of the Tent European Business Summit: together with the visionary CEOs co-sponsoring the event, I encourage other business leaders across Europe to step up, lower the barriers and hire Ukrainian refugee women. They will bolster your team, and they deserve to not only survive, but thrive as they rebuild their lives."
