SHANGHAI, Nov. 3, 2023/PRNewswire/ -- The world's first maritime renewable energy project combining offshore floating wind power and aquaculture has been completed in China. The project, which represents a significant step forward for China's wind energy sector, has been developed by Longyuan Power Group and Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group (Wind Power Group), a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric (SEHK: 2727, SSE: 601727 ), which supplies power generation equipment and marine turbine towers.

With wind energy emerging as a key pillar in the fight against the climate crisis, the Wind Power Group is accelerating its innovation, pushing the frontier of global renewable energy technology as a key energy source to help create a sustainable future. Since the creation of its 3.6 megawatt wind turbine, the company has consolidated its leadership position in onshore and offshore wind, spearheading a number of large projects in China seeking new wind energy applications that address the challenges and bottlenecks of industry development.

With the deployment of offshore wind power extending beyond coastal regions to deepwater locations, Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group is fully prepared to lead the development, installation and operation of floating wind power and offshore wind power projects. deep marine, equipping itself with cutting-edge technology and leveraging its extensive experience to create solutions for new and multipurpose energy infrastructures.

Built within the Nanri Island National Marine Fish Farming Demonstration Zone, located in Putian, China's Fujian Province, the project features three-column semi-submersible floating platforms, each supporting an offshore wind turbine of 4 MW, and light and flexible solar modules that are installed in the area with a water depth of about 35 meters. In the central area of the platform there is a hexagonal space that can be used for fish farming.

Once operational, the mixed energy project has the capacity to generate 96,000 kWh of electricity per day at full capacity, which is equivalent to the daily energy consumption of 42,500 people. The pioneering convergence of wind energy, photovoltaics and aquaculture presents a new horizon for the industry to develop sustainable and green renewable solutions designed to reduce carbon emissions while driving economic growth.

In terms of safety, Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group applies a multi-pronged approach to ensure project reliability throughout its life cycle. During the preliminary design phase, the company established an integrated model that was confirmed through a multi-round consistency analysis. Other measures, such as the comparison of simulation results on various platforms and the development of control algorithms in collaboration with DVN, have also reinforced the security and reliability of the project.

The entire project has also undergone a wide range of rigorous testing under almost 200 operating conditions, including a 1:40 scale model used to examine the fishing pond. The company has also developed a bespoke smart terminal system for floating wind turbines, which improves reliability to ensure safe and consistent operation of the turbines while maximizing wind utilization.
