- Human Frontier Science Program: Scholarships awarded to 59 of the most pioneering postdoctoral scientists from 28 countries
STRASBOURG, France, April 4, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- To foster next-generation life sciences research, 59 of the world's best emerging scientists from 28 countries have been awarded grants from the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) by 2024.
"Brilliance is not born, it has to be cultivated," said Guntram Bauer, scientific director of HFSP. "The HFSP has always strongly supported the next generation of pioneers through its Scholarship Program, and the 2024 fellows show great promise. About HFSP Awards:
HFSP scholarships last for three years and, on average, provide US$200,000 in total. Fellows work in the laboratory of a host scientist in a country other than the one in which they earned their PhD.
HFSP Long-Term Scholarships are intended for applicants with a PhD in a biological topic who wish to embark on a novel project at the frontiers of life sciences. Interdisciplinary fellowships are intended for applicants who hold a PhD in a non-biological discipline (e.g. physics, chemistry, engineering, or computer science), but who wish to work on a novel project at the frontiers of biology.
Among all our awardees, we are looking for scientists who form international collaboration teams, preferably intercontinental, who have not worked together before and who carry out work without preliminary data.
The Human Frontier Science Program was founded in 1989 by the G7 countries and the European Commission to promote international research and training at the frontier of life sciences. Its goal is to promote intercontinental collaboration and training in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research focused on the life sciences. The HFSP receives financial support from the governments or research councils of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, the United States. as well as the European Commission. Since 1990, more than 8,500 researchers from more than 70 countries have received grants. Of them, 29 HFSP nominees have managed to win the Nobel Prize.
