Casar de Cáceres, January 25. - The Regulatory Council of the Torta del Casar Protected Designation of Origin has presented five tours at the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur) to learn about the gastronomy, natural and cultural resources of the province of Cáceres. The project was born on the 25th anniversary of the Torta del Casar Denomination of Origin. It is called the Gastronomic Route 'The Taste of a Territory' and its objective is to develop a new tourist product that has cheese at the center.

The director of the Torta del Casar Denomination of Origin, Javier Muñoz, has positively valued the opportunity to make the Gastronomic Route known to the public and the media. “What better time to present it than in Fitur. “It has been a success,” concluded Muñoz.

The tours also incorporate museum and interpretive spaces related to the pastoral and nomadic culture typical of each area, which adds greater value to the traditions around the gastronomic preparations of the territory. All places of interest on the route will be plotted on Google Maps to facilitate access to the user.

Each of the five proposed routes departs and returns to Casar de Cáceres, the birthplace of Torta del Casar and includes a selection of accommodations, restaurants, activity companies, cheese shops and gourmet shops so that the visitor has a complete experience when visiting the province of Cáceres. In total, 57 establishments have been selected. During the presentation to the public, Muñoz explained that visitors will be able to book experiences, hotels and restaurants directly from the website itself, thus facilitating the experience for the user.

The director of the Torta del Casar D.O.P has explained that “the objective is to expand the resources and options available, as well as to provide visitors with one or two-day tours so that they can take short getaways.”

Five tours to get to know and taste Cáceres

The first route starts, like all the others, from Casar de Cáceres and contemplates the southwest of the province, passing through Cáceres capital, the area of ​​the Tajo Internacional and the Tajo Salor Almonte. Among the cultural resources that can be visited, the historical complex of Cáceres, the Luis de Morales altarpiece or the Roman bridge of Alcántara stand out. Among the natural resources is the Los Barruecos Natural Monument and the museums include the Cheese Museum, the Vostell Museum or the Helga Alvear Museum.

The second gastronomic tour runs through the northwest of the Cáceres province, passing through the Alagón Valley, the Sierra de Gata or Las Hurdes. Among the cultural resources you can visit the historical complex of Coria, Galisteo or San Martín de Trevejo. Among the natural resources are the Chorro de la Meancera or the Meandro Melero.

The third runs through the north-center of the province, passing through Monfragüe, Plasencia, Ambroz and Cáparra. It includes cultural resources such as the historical complex of Plasencia, the Roman city of Cáparra or the Roman baths of Baños de Montemayor. The Monfragüe National Park is the most striking natural resource in this area.

The fourth passes through the Jerte Valley, La Vera and Campo Arañuelo, that is, through the northeast of Cáceres. The Monastery of Yuste or the Casillo de Belvís are two of the most characteristic cultural resources of the area, where the natural resources of the Garganta de Los Infiernos Reserve or the Garganta de los Alardos also play an important role.

The fifth and last gastronomic route covers the southeast of the province, with destinations such as Montánchez, Trujillo or the Villuercas Ibores Jara Geopark. The most notable cultural resources are the Montánchez Castle or the historical complex of Trujillo. Among the natural resources marked to visit are the Pico de Villuercas or the Cuevas de Castañar Natural Monument.
