King Felipe VI inaugurated the Spanish-Dutch Business Summit held in The Hague last Thursday, April 18, 2024, focused on cybersecurity and fintech. The opening session was attended by both kings and welcome speeches by Micky Adriaansens, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy of the Netherlands, and Xiana Mendez, Secretary of State for Trade of Spain and President of ICEX. His Majesty King Felipe VI, in his inaugural speech, praised the Dutch triple helix innovation model, which integrates joint efforts by the administration, business and academia to promote economic and social development. He highlighted how this approach has contributed to creating a virtuous circle that accelerates the creation of economic opportunities, increasing the productivity and well-being of society. Furthermore, he highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity as a global concern and emphasized that cooperation is essential to improve collective resilience against threats. The event titled "Economic Security through Technology and Innovation" brought together an exclusive list of 260 guests, including representatives of 60 Spanish and 130 Dutch companies.

The leaders emphasized the importance of technology and innovation to achieve economic security, with the participation of business leaders from both countries. Furthermore, Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands stressed the value of international business and technological innovation.

The summit included sector-specific sessions and meetings. In cybersecurity, the fundamental role of this area as a new main and strategic support for companies was mainly discussed. In fintech, the challenges and opportunities that innovation brings to the financial sector were discussed.

This Spanish-Dutch Trade Mission was a testament to the growing strength and competitiveness of the Spanish technology sector, organized by ICEX, in collaboration with the CEOE and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. The CEO of shaadowio emphasized the need for continued collaboration between cutting-edge technology startups and corporations to improve the resilience of corporations to current and future cybersecurity threats.
