NEWARK -- The soundtrack of the Garden State will be on full display this fall -- the Grammy Museum is coming to Newark's Prudential Center.

The Grammy Museum at L.A. Live and the Prudential Center announced the partnership on Tuesday, flanked by young Jersey performers and iconic artists like Cissy Houston.

"My very first concert was here in Newark," said Bob Santelli, Grammy Museum executive director. "We are overly excited to come back East."

The 8,200 square-foot museum will open later this year inside the Prudential Center and feature educational programming, interactive exhibits and a Jersey-centric display celebrating the state's artists.

"I'm so glad this is coming to Newark," Cissy Houston told reporters. "Where  I was born and bred."

Three other Grammy Museums exist in the U.S. in Los Angeles, Mississippi and Nashville.

"This project adds another layer of richness to the city that will really last a lifetime," said Newark's Deputy Mayor Baye Adofo-Wilson. "Newark has gotten to a point where the Grammy's are opening up a facility here on Mulberry Street. This is one of those critical junctures, those critical points that we have to be mindful of that this is happening today."
