MADRID, 22 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Jaume Serra celebrates 25 years as part of the García-Carrión family group and he does so by carrying out projects that are committed to sustainability and working to seasonally adjust the consumption of cava.

Thus, since García-Carrión acquired the Vilanova i La Geltrú (Barcelona) winery in 1997 to start his project to group different Denominations of Origin and promote a large family cellar, sustainability has been present throughout the production process. , beginning with respect for the environment: the El Padruell farmhouse and the 125 ha of vineyards that surround it keep under its surface all the automated installation to make the entire production process efficient, keeping quality intact.

Among its sustainable actions, Jaume Serra --as well as the García-Carrión de Huelva, Daimiel, Valdepeñas, Almería, Jumilla, Segorbe, La Rioja and Haza centers-- is immersed in a self-consumption project together with Endesa consisting of a photovoltaic installation that will allow, as a whole, to avoid the emission of about 8,300 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

In addition, Jaume Serra has managed to reduce the electricity consumption ratio by 9.1% in the winery in the last year and has optimized the process of disgorging the cava, with the installation of a system to be able to separate the sheet and make separate waste management.

Likewise, it has been working on optimizing its cava bottles, reducing their weight by 12% to 800 grams to have a low ecological impact. In fact, with this project it has managed to avoid the annual emission of 2,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere since 2008.

On the other hand, as the company's commitment to protecting the environment and to respond to consumer demands, the winery has been promoting organic viticulture for years as a production method for some of its eco-labelled products, such as its cavas of Macabeo grapes, among which the Organic Jaume Serra Cava Brut stands out.

"García-Carrión has always believed in the products of the land and works daily so that its activity generates a positive impact on the environment. That is why the promotion of organic farming is a fundamental part of the family business, since it contributes to this objective of caring for the environment and, consequently, has carried out investments to convert the land and wines into certified organic products", they explain.

All this translates into a series of benefits for the environment, as the company explains, "because it allows eliminating the use of herbicides in these crops or recovering strains and also contributes to social sustainability, since it contributes to preserving the link with the territory and create more jobs.

In this sense, Jaume Serra -currently the only large cellar in Spanish hands- has been optimistic about this Christmas campaign and has stated that it is "working daily" and in "close cooperation" with its clients to "Give answers to their needs and ensure the best scenario".

In fact, Jaume Serra expects to close the year 2022 (including the Christmas holidays) with a growth of 20.5% compared to the previous year.

One of the strategies in which the Catalan winery has been working for years to diversify its offer is to separate the consumption of cava exclusively at Christmas and extend it to other times of the year. In this sense, it has a line of products such as Cava Jaume Serra Ice, designed to be consumed during the summer months, with ice and in a cocktail format.

One of the novelties of this year 2022 is the launch of Jaume Serra without alcohol, a sparkling 'without' similar to cava -both in the bottle and in the content and flavor--. It is designed both for young people and for all those profiles who cannot or do not want to drink alcohol, but "want to continue enjoying the taste of our wines and sparkling wines".

Thus, Jaume Serra widens the range of public to which they are directed by offering low-alcohol alternatives and non-alcoholic products, adapted to the needs and demands of the consumer in the coming years.
