COMMUNICATION: SIGEP OBSERVATORY SUMMER 2024: ICE CREAM, DATA AND TRENDS

(Information sent by the signatory company)

RIMINI, Italy, May 2, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- On the verge of summer, the Sigep Observatory (46th International Artisan Dolce World Exhibition, organized in Italy by the IEG - Italian Exhibition Group, at the Rimini Exhibition Center from January 18 to 22, 2025, www.sigep.it) collects data and trends in the European ice cream industry.

THE EUROPEAN AND ITALIAN SCENARIO: FORECASTS FOR SUMMER 2024

Marco Carniello (pictured), CBO of IEG, explains: "In Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, 2.2 billion ice creams were sold in 2023, a year in which, according to data from CREST-Circana, the Ice cream consumption in Europe grew by 4.7%, forecast to increase in 2024 thanks to consumers who see ice cream as an accessible pleasure in a still uncertain economic context."

Flavia Morelli (pictured), head of IEG's food and beverage fairs, adds: "In Italy in particular, according to economic categories, such as the Italian Association of Ice Cream Makers, the positive sales evolution recorded this spring implies a estimated increase in consumption. In Italy, artistic cities have increased from 6 to 12% due to the large number of international tourists."

SUMMER TRENDS: A THOUSAND FLAVORS UNDER THE SUN

By summer 2024, Italian gelato master Giancarlo Timballo, president of the Ice Cream World Cup, will create new flavors based on local traditions and working with local products. Among his proposals, raspberry and rosemary ice creams stand out.

Eugenio Morrone, master ice cream maker with two famous ice cream parlors in Rome, has created a carrot, tangerine and lemon ice cream in tribute to the great Jannik Sinner. The "surprise", however, is the return of the tiramisu flavor, which is increasingly in demand, especially among foreign tourists.

Marco Miquel Sirvent, president of the National Association of Artisan Ice Cream Makers of Spain, highlights the health aspect with a tendency to purchase low-sugar ice creams (although nougat, vanilla and chocolate continue to persist). Forecasts for the summer of 2024 are optimistic with an increase in consumption of 3-5%.

German consumers are torn between the great classics and curiosity for new ideas, as explains Dario Fontanella, founder of a well-known ice cream parlor in Mannheim, Germany, which, by the summer of 2024, will offer white chocolate ice cream with asparagus, typical of the Baden-Württemberg region. New flavors include curry bergamot and wasabi.
