HERNDON, Va., Feb. 15, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Global software company Nuix ( www.nuix.com | ASX:NXL) today announced that together with its partner, Serco Inc ( www.serco.com | OTC: SCGPY), has been a winner in the US Navy Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Automation Challenge, sponsored by the US Navy Office of Naval Research. In an increasingly tense geopolitical environment, the correct management of the different types and volumes of classified information protects the integrity and confidentiality of the information they contain. The US Navy's recent "CUI Tool Automation Challenge" highlights the need for complex enterprises to automate document evaluation using recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Nuix/Serco team was one of the three participants who won prizes from this challenge.

"We were delighted to work with Serco on this challenge," said Oliver Harvey, Nuix's Executive Vice President of Customer Strategy and Innovation. "Working together, we were showcasing our capabilities to an important audience: using MIT award-winning AI to process large volumes of important contextual information, and successfully automating a time-consuming process open to human error."

Properly setting the classification level of US Government and Department of Defense documents enables DoD organizations to lower barriers to effective—and vital—information sharing with partners and allies. But once information is assigned a classification level, maintaining the chain of trust as multiple humans interact with it is a complex and time-consuming challenge. A problem that becomes even more complicated when the number of documents that must be treated correctly rises to millions. To address this challenge, the US Navy's Naval Surface Warfare Center convened a competition to find solution providers with viable approaches to automate the evaluation of classified documents for a particular type of unclassified information called unclassified information. classified controlled (abbreviated CUI, for its acronym in English).

Although the CUI challenge was designed specifically for the US Navy and Defense sector, today it is increasingly directly applicable to a wide range of commercial and government organizations. Indeed, the challenge is pervasive: how to harness emerging technologies (such as AI/ML/NLP) to automate and streamline the ingestion, interpretation, classification, and prioritization of a huge and ever-increasing volume of information to make better decisions and support business processes. business objectives.

To be in the top three, the Nuix/Serco team had to formally submit a solution design, participate in a rigorous, multi-month selection process, and finally deliver a prototype of self-installing software that the US Navy received. tested in his laboratory. A combined team of subject matter experts from Nuix Inc and Serco Inc worked collaboratively using a small data set to train the Nuix NLP product to automatically detect CUI in unstructured text documents, provide a confidence score for each document, and bundle and deploy the solution for eventual deployment in a US Navy lab network. Once trained and deployed, the prototype successfully marked CUI content leveraging key features of Nuix NLP, such as a language model large size owner, text categorization, document type classification, context-aware extractions, and risk engine.

"Serco's world-renowned services and deep industry experience, coupled with Nuix's innovative AI technology, made us a formidable contender for this complex text analytics challenge," said Bob Trabucchi, Senior Solutions Architect of Serco AI/ML. "Our success on this project is even more impressive when you consider that only two part-time engineers pulled it off. And we're just beginning to scratch the surface of what's possible."
