DeMarcus Ware left Dallas for Denver following the 2013 season, in search of the one thing missing from his Hall of Fame career.

He had spent his first nine seasons in a Cowboys uniform, accumulating sacks at an historic rate for teams that rarely rose above mediocrity.

Ware won his first Super Bowl in 2015, a key cog in one of the greatest defenses in NFL history.

Now he might be ready to return to his roots.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Ware is interested in returning to Denver for a fourth season, but also views the Cowboys as a viable destination.

Ware, 34, is an unrestricted free agent. He is coming off the worst season of his professional career; Ware set career lows in games played (10), sacks (4) and tackles (15).

But Ware is just one season removed from his ninth Pro Bowl appearance and could help bolster a Cowboys front that ranked 13th in sacks (36) and 26th in quarterback hurries (81).

There may be some trepidation regarding Ware's ability to play at a high level following back surgery to repair a ruptured disk, but he intends to compete in 2017.

"I definitely want to play. I've got a lot of passion. I'm always chasing that ring," Ware told ESPN. "People say if you get four sacks you pass this guy, or if you get five sacks you pass that guy -- four-this, five-that. But my biggest thing is always I want a ring while I'm sacking the heck out of the quarterback."

Ware has accumulated 138.5 sacks during his career, eighth all-time and second among active players.
