Climate protection: US Environment Minister announces abolition of Obama's climatic plan

The US government's plans to reverse climate protection policy of former US President Barack Obama are taking concrete forms. Environment Minister Scott Pruitt announced on Tuesday to sign a bill to abolish so-called Clean Power Plan. "Here is message of President: The War on coal is over," said Pruitt at a rally in coal field in hazard in state of Kentucky.

The Obama administration's programme aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in United States. Details of new bill were not called Pruitt, which is considered a climate skeptic. Reuters, news agency, who was able to see bill according to its own specifications, reported that Environmental Protection Authority had not yet decided wher to withdraw climate protection plan or to adopt new emission regulations for power plants.

Originally, Clean Power Plan foresaw, among or things, that US states have to reduce a certain amount of greenhouse gas emissions depending on ir energy consumption. Compared to year 2005, this should reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants to 2030 by 32 percent. Obama wanted to use Clean Power Plan to meet objectives of Paris climate Protection agreement. However, Supreme Court continued programme last year after it had been legally challenged by industry and coal-friendly states. However, programme has recently contributed to shutdown of several coal-fired power stations.

Pruitt fought Clean Power Plan before taking office

Today's environment minister, Pruitt, had already fought Clean Power Plan during his time as attorney General of Oklahoma and sued with general attorneys of or states. He has close links with oil and gas industry in his home state. It also rejects scientific consensus that emissions from burning of fossil fuels by humans are main cause of global warming. US President Donald Trump shares Pruitts skepticism about climate research.

He decreed in March that EPA would review Clean Power Plan for its legitimacy and develop a new energy concept. The draft bill, now announced by Environment Minister Pruitt, is result of this demand. Observers expect Pruitt to argue that with program predecessor Government had to cross federal laws by setting scarcely achievable emission standards. Neir EPA nor any or federal authority should declare war on an industry, said Pruitt.

Trump had repeatedly criticized in past that legal restrictions in energy sector were wrong and led to job. Obama's climate policy is a "war on coal."

Obama, on or hand, had seen fight against climate change as an important objective of his presidency. He wanted to reduce emissions of coal-fired power plants by means of legal measures. He also introduced health benefits. The EPA n estimated that Clean Power Plan would prevent thousands of premature deaths and more than 140,000 asthma attacks from children.

Under Obama's regency, in year 2015, United States also signed Paris climate change agreement, in which 195 states agreed to reduce global warming by greenhouse effect to "significantly below two degrees" compared to pre-industrial time Limit. Obama's successor, however, also criticized this agreement as a fight against coal industry. In June of this year, Trump announced that he wanted to get out of agreement.
