The Chancellor rejected Horst Seehofer's call for more responsibilities for the Ministry of the Interior. According to a report, the CSU chief wants to switch to Berlin anyway.

Horst Seehofer: Minister of the Interior receives no further competencies

The designated Minister of Interior Horst Seehofer (CSU) will not receive any additional responsibilities from Ministry. In a confidential conversation, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) refused to solve competencies required by Seehofer from Agrarressort, reports Spiegel.

In this context, it was about areas of responsibility that could be used to distribute subsidies nationwide. The outgoing Bavarian prime minister had demanded a corresponding transfer to Ministry of Interior, Construction and homeland intended for him.

However, Merkel did not want to give furr competences from area of CDU – in case of a government formation, CDU politician Julia Klöckner is planned as minister. The Chancellor, however, has promised CSU chief post of a state Minister for digital in Chancellery, Spiegel continues to report. The deputy CSU chief, Doroe Baer, is considered to be a possible candidate.

Seehofer changes "definitively" to Berlin

Despite Merkel's decision, Seehofer wanted to change to federal politics. He will "definitely" go as a federal interior minister into a grand coalition, said CSU chief of Bild newspaper. "If SPD member's decision proceeds accordingly, I will switch to federal cabinet."

Seehofer had recently suggested himself speculation that he could not enter a federal government in dispute over adaptation of Federal ministry. After conversation with Merkel, however, he now informed that Division was clarified by consensus.

The decisive factor for change to Berlin, however, is outcome of SPD's membership vote, which will be published on Sunday. Should Social Democrats agree to a new version of grand coalition after CSU and CDU as last party, Seehofer would have a federal ministry to be revalued in areas of homeland and construction.
