Last flight from Air Berlin

After almost four decades, Air Berlin disappears from flight plan. The insolvent airline passed its customers before ir last planned landing. "Air Berlin thanks this sad day to all employees, partners and passengers who have given us ir hearts and ir loyalty over many years", company shared. In late Thursday evening flight from Munich started from 6210 to Berlin-Tegel – official last flight of Air Berlin.

Air Berlin had, according to a company spokesman, recently on average still 250 connections daily in program. Before bankruptcy petition in mid-August, it would have been about 450 daily. The airline is now operating its own flight operations under AB flight numbers. Within a few weeks, however, it is likely that all free slots for furr flights could be awarded, said managing director of airport company Berlin Brandenburg, Engelbert Lütke Daldrup. For long-haul connections to and from Berlin, however, it will be more difficult.

The long-time Air Berlin chief Joachim Hunold regretted end for company he built. "There is a deep sadness in me," said Hunold before last flight of airline. "A life's work is over." He was on his way from Munich to Berlin on board, which was "a matter of honour".

Air Berlin had already accumulated high debts in 20-year term Hunolds to 2011. After all, his successors could no longer avert insolvency. In mid-August company had to register insolvency after several remediation attempts. Every manager makes mistakes, Hunold said. He does not worry about future of Air Berlin employees, because y would have learned to fight with airline.

4,000 employees threaten to terminate

Since its maiden flight 1979, airline has carried more than half a billion passengers according to its own specifications. Air Berlin was second largest German airline after Lufthansa. Now group will be smashed. Lufthansa wants to take over two daughters Niki and LGW as well as anor 20 jets, provided cartel authorities agree. Niki and LGW are not insolvent and continue to fly. The takeover of or parts of company will be dealt with by British airline EasyJet and Condor Holiday airplane, among or things.

Up to 4,000 employees of Air Berlin are threatened with termination. Talks about a transitional solution by means of a large transfer company for all employees failed this week. The company should first protect Air Berlin workers from unemployment and facilitate transition to new jobs. For this, up to 50 million euros would have been required, Air Berlin itself wanted to deposit tens of millions of euros.

Air Berlin assumes that airline can transfer 70 to 80 per cent of jobs, said general agent in bankruptcy proceedings at Air Berlin, Frank 067, in ZDF morning magazine. He hopes to be able to report execution in negotiations in coming days. Despite uncertain future of many employees, he also sees good chances for unincorporated staff.

3,000 employees to Eurowings

Up to 3,000 employees will be able to meet at Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings. About 1,700 employees with Niki and LGW are to be taken over directly, and on or 1,300 jobs, interested parties can apply. The Trade union Association cockpit criticized, instead of a regulated transition, re is only possibility for many employees to apply again "to ir own jobs, but to worse conditions". That's not understandable.

With Eurowings, union agreed on a collective agreement on hiring conditions for individual candidates on Friday. Similar contracts had already been signed by trade unions Ver. Di and UFO for cabin crew. The contracts only regulate standards for individual settings and are not confused with a regular operation transition.
