Cartel law: US government wants to sue against merger of AT T and Time Warner

The US Department of Justice wants to prevent takeover of US media group Time Warner by mobile phone company AT T. This is shown in documents submitted by Ministry in a New York federal court. The authority argues that merger has negative consequences for denamerikanischen consumers. The cost of cable television would increase, but innovation would be reduced.

AT T is confident that this lawsuit will fail. According to group's adviser, David McAtee, re is no legitimate reason for takeover to be treated differently from or mergers. Finally, takeovers of companies that are not direct competitors have been routinely approved.

In October, AT T and Time Warner signed an initial agreement to sell Time Warner to AT T for 85.4 billion dollars. This also includes channel HBO, film studio Warner Bros. And news channel CNN. AT T wants to become more independent from mobile phone business, with demdas companies being under pressure by smaller rivals such as Sprint or telecom subsidiary T-Mobile.

Originally hattenbeide companies planned to complete deal announced once in October 2016 by end of year. But this is unlikely to be possible by US government's lawsuit.

Most recently, however, Financial Times reported that Justice Department was ready to accept takeover when Time Warner sold its prestigious – and Trump – critical news channel, CNN. Many suspect that this is a statement from White House, where president has been treated unfairly for a long time by CNN reporting. He had already announced during election campaign that under his presidency DasJustizministerium would block business.
