A major collision involving a dozen people left many injured, including at least one victim in critical condition, Saturday morning, in Saint-Michel-des-Saints in Lanaudière.

Around 11 a.m. Saturday morning, a driver lost control of his van on Manawan Road, with about ten passengers on board.

The MRC de Matawinie auxiliary was dispatched to the scene with the collaboration of the Manawan police. According to initial information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the accident would have caused several injuries and at least one victim would be in critical condition.

An Airmedic helicopter is currently en route to pick up the injured.

"Several people were not seated safely in the van," said SQ spokesman Nicolas Scholtus.

The driver could also face an impaired driving charge.

Accident reconstruction specialists and investigators are on hand to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the collision.
