MADRID, 26 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Amazon identified and seized more than seven million counterfeit products in 2023, which is one million more than in 2022, preventing them from harming consumers or being resold elsewhere in the retail supply chain, according to the fourth edition of its 'Brand Protection Report'.

Specifically, the multinational has invested more than 1.2 billion dollars (around 1.1 billion euros) and has employed 15,000 people, including experts in machine learning, software developers and specialized researchers, among them. many other profiles.

In this way, the e-commerce giant last year stopped more than 700,000 attempts to create new fraudulent seller accounts before they could put a single product for sale in the store.

This figure represents a significant decrease compared to the six million attempts to create new fraudulent accounts in 2020, confirming that marketplace controls achieve a clear deterrent effect on offenders.

According to the document, to which Europa Press has had access, since its launch in 2020, the Amazon Anti-Counterfeiting Crimes Unit (CCU) has filed legal actions and reported more than 21,000 offenders to the authorities. .

A figure that confirms how the marketplace's efforts to identify and dismantle organizations dedicated to the sale of counterfeit products are giving good results and having a positive impact worldwide.

"We are proud of how far we have come in preventing counterfeit products in our store and how this progress has led to significant innovation, thanks to the collaborations and partnerships we have been able to establish with brands, organizations, policy makers, law enforcement and other actors," said Dharmesh Mehta, global vice president of seller services at Amazon.

The multinational, in its commitment to protect brands, points to four key pillars to stop these cases, such as establishing preventive, rigorous and effective controls to deter offenders, providing brands with protection tools, promoting that Counterfeiters are held accountable for their illicit actions and educate and raise consumer awareness about these fraudulent practices.

In this way, the e-commerce giant, in its fight to protect clients, brands and commercial collaborators, has increased the adoption of protection tools.

Thus, since 2020, although the number of products available for sale on Amazon has grown significantly, there has been a drop of more than 30% in the total valid infringement claims filed by brands.
