Casar de Cáceres, March 26. - The Regulatory Council of the Torta del Casar Protected Designation of Origin commemorates International Cheese Day, which is celebrated on Wednesday, March 27, vindicating the work of dairy farmers for the production of Torta del Casar and influencing the need to ensure generational change to guarantee production, in addition to addressing the problem of depopulation suffered by rural areas.

The director of the Torta del Casar Protected Designation of Origin, Javier Muñoz, has defended that “Torta del Casar helps with its activity to stop the depopulation of rural territories.” “By definition, the Protected Designation of Origin is totally linked to its geographical area, so all processes, from obtaining milk to final labeling, take place in the 36 municipalities that make up the regions surrounding Casar de Cáceres,” he said. Muñoz concluded.

Currently, more than 70 families live around the Designation of Origin - which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary - and generates more than 80 direct jobs, aspiring to continue increasing them to guarantee production, while working to increase the profitability of the cheese. .

Activities in Casar de Cáceres on World Cheese Day

On the occasion of World Cheese Day, Casar de Cáceres, the birthplace of Torta del Casar hosts several celebrations throughout Wednesday, March 27. Among them is the delivery of Torta de Casar as a prize to the winner of the second edition of the drawing contest alluding to the day. The objective is to highlight the tradition and culture of this product, and the residents of the municipality have participated in the contest in various categories depending on their age.

In addition, both the Cheese Museum and the Interpretation Center of the Casar Livestock Trails in Cáceres offer free visits to learn about the history and process of making Torta del Casar, showing how the people of Casar have maintained throughout the characteristics of this peculiar cheese linked to its livestock tradition.

Casar de Cáceres also hosts a Torta del Casar tasting on Wednesday in the Plaza de España from 12 noon for all those who want to try the cheese.

After celebrating World Cheese Day, those who are in the area can also enjoy this Holy Week 'The Taste of a Territory', organized by the D.O.P Torta del Casar with the aim of promoting gastronomic tourism around the protected cheese . Travelers can stay in more than fifteen charming hotels while getting to know the gastronomy of Cáceres, with Torta del Casar at the center of the dishes.

This year, within 'The Taste of a Territory', 'The Taste of a Territory Gastronomic Route' was born, offering the traveler five routes to get to know the province of Cáceres in depth, enjoying its gastronomy and natural and cultural resources.

The first route contemplates the southwest of the province, passing through Cáceres capital, the area of ​​the Tajo Internacional and the Tajo Salor Almonte. The second runs through the northwest of the province, passing through the Alagón Valley, the Sierra de Gata or Las Hurdes. The third explores the central and northern area, passing through Monfragüe, Plasencia, Ambroz and Cáparra. For its part, the fourth route goes through the Jerte Valley, La Vera and Campo Arañuelo, that is, through the northeast of Cáceres. The fifth and last gastronomic route covers the southeast of the province, with destinations such as Montánchez, Trujillo or the Villuercas Ibores Jara Geopark.
