The companies' turnover rose 0.9% in February compared to the same month in 2023 despite the 31.8% drop in sales in the supply of electricity, water, sanitation and waste management.

With the advance of February, company sales return to positive interannual rates after ten months of declines, according to the Business Turnover Index (ICNE) published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Faced with the decline in sales in the supply of electrical energy, the billing of services, commerce and industry increased by 8.2%, 3.9% and 1.7% year-on-year, respectively.

Corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, company turnover fell 1.9% in February due to the year-on-year drop in sales in the supply of energy and water (-32.8%). In the opposite direction, the billing of services increased by 7.7%, that of commerce advanced by 3.1% and that of industry, by 0.5%.

SALES INCREASE 0.2% IN FEBRUARY IN MONTHLY RATE

In monthly values ​​(February over January), business turnover increased by 0.2% in the seasonally adjusted series, four tenths less than in January (0.6%).

Of the four sectors analyzed, commerce presented the highest monthly increase in sales (2.3%), while the only decrease was recorded in the supply of electrical energy, with a monthly drop in billing of 3%.
