SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Boxes of inactive city records and blueprints damaged by water in a DPW fire last month are getting dried out in the Saratoga Music Hall.
But don't worry, Dance Flurry fans. The stacks of city planning, zoning and building files are being stored out of the way so the popular music and dance festival can strike up the its first notes uninterrupted. The festival runs from Friday through Sunday,
"There will be no impact on the event," said Michael Veitch, the department of public works business manager. "They are stored in a location that will not be utilized during the Dance Flurry."
The files, as well as hand tools used by the city's carpentry crew, were damaged in the Jan. 27 fire in the dispatch building at 19 Van Rensselaer St. Also damaged were a drill press, portable welder and a snowblower attachment for the skid steer, Veitch said. Preliminary reports indicate the building will have to be razed and rebuilt.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, Veitch said. City police have ruled out arson.
The 30th annual Flurry Festival is expected to draw thousands of musicians and dancers. In addition to the Music Hall, the festival's concerts, dances and workshops spread throughout the city, filling the City Center, the Hilton and smaller venues like Caffe Lena and the Parting Glass.
