Troopers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are stepping up highway traffic enforcement in a campaign that crosses state lines.

Pennsylvania State Police on Wednesday announced the effort called Operation Double Vision, which will put extra patrols on area highways, including Interstates 78 and 80.

A news release says the campaign is a joint effort between Pennsylvania's Troop M — covering Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton counties — and the New Jersey State Police Troop B, which covers North Jersey and includes barracks in Warren and Hunterdon counties.

The enforcement runs the gamut: "The goal is to identify and apprehend drivers who drive aggressively, exhibit distracted driving behavior, and drivers that are under the influence of alcohol or drugs," the release says. "Enforcement will also concentrate on moving violations such as speeding and reckless driving as well as seat belt, child safety seat violations and commercial vehicle violations."

A Pennsylvania State Police spokesman said the program was to kick off Wednesday, though the exact timeframe is confidential.
