“Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi,” Drew Hammill said in a statement, adding that Nancy Pelosi was not there at the time. 'offensive.

Paul Pelosi, 82, has been transferred to hospital, where he is receiving "excellent care", the spokesperson added.

The suspect was taken into custody. His motives are under investigation.
