To protect against African swine fever, federal government has abolished wild boars. According to federal economics, cabinet adopted a corresponding ordinance. According to this, hunting of wild boars, which is now permitted all year round, will allow a significant thinning of black wild population. This should reduce risk of introduction of African swine fever.

The regulation also lays down furr rules for cleaning and disinfection of livestock transport vehicles. Wild boars must also be identified and animals that have been slaughtered should be examined. The feeding of grass, hay and straw from endangered areas is prohibited. It is feared that, especially in border areas, wild pork sausages could eat from infected animals and infect mselves. Vehicle drivers from Eastern Europe have refore been called not to throw away raw sausage. In private households and in public places, food residues should always be disposed of closed, so that y cannot be eaten by wild boars.

African swine fever, which informs domestic and wild boars, has spread over Russia and Baltic states in direction of Western Europe for some years now. The disease, which is harmless to humans, is almost always fatal in domestic and feral pigs. There is no vaccine. Farmers fear loss of export restrictions in event of an outbreak in Germany. The Farmers ' Association and Hunting Association had refore called for more wild boars to be shot than before in order to reduce risk of an outbreak of disease.

Although this type of swine fever is harmless to humans, it can be a carrier of disease: Man could bring pathogen from abroad to Germany, Federal Minister Christian Schmidt warned recently. The introduction of epidemic was a major danger for Germany and, in addition to effects on animals, would have serious economic consequences for pig fattening farms, said CDU politician.
