Composer: Beat Furrer receives Ernst von Siemens Music Award

According to the jury, Furrer carries on with every new work musical ideas and enters unknown terrain. The 63-year-old composer is regarded as a specialist for new music.

Beat Furrer is awarded International Ernst VonSiemens Music Prize 2018. As Board of Trustees of Ernst VonSiemens Music Foundation has shown, Furrer is honored by an artist "vonhöchster integrity". His work is based on "compelling force and great stringency".

BeatFurrer was born 1954 in Schaffhausen. After moving to Vienna in Jahr1975, he studied conducting at Hochschule for Music and Performing arts at Otmar Suiter as well as composition with Roman Haubenstock-Ramati. In 1985 he founded Sound Forum Vienna, which he led until 1992 and which has since been connected to conductor. Furrer is regarded as a specialist for new Musik.Er received music Prize of City of Vienna in 2004 and was awarded Golden Lion at BiennaleVenedig 2006.

The prize of Ernstvon Siemens Music Foundation is endowed with 250,000 euro and is to be awarded on 3 May Immunich Prinzregentenater Theater. He is considered one of world's most prestigious awards of classical music. The prize-winners in FrüherenJahren were conductor Mariss Jansons or violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.
