LONDON, December 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The BE OPEN Foundation has joined the program of COP28, the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2023 in Dubai, by far the event related to climate, energy and the largest and most influential sustainability in the world.

On day 6 of COP28, at the Greening Education Hub organized by the Ministry of Education, BE OPEN Director Gennady Terebkov shared the findings and data on sustainability-related education accumulated over the course of the five years of its duration BE OPEN's five-year student program based on the theme of the SDGs. The program chooses to focus on a particular goal each year and has so far covered SDG 12: Responsible production and consumption, SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities, SDG 2: Zero hunger, SDG 7: Clean and affordable energy and SDG 13: Climate change.

The panel discussion under the title "Empowering Academia: Integrating Sustainability in Higher Education" became a dynamic and interactive session designed to inspire and equip university students, professors, teachers and academic professionals with the knowledge and tools to integrate sustainability in higher education.

In addition to Gennady Terebkov, the panel included two ambassadors of the Student Energy Summit and two members of the Action for Climate Empowerment working group (ACE WG), who shared ideas, experiences and innovative approaches to infuse sustainability principles in the academic institutions.

The reasoning behind BE OPEN's sustainability-themed educational program was best explained above by BE OPEN founder Elena Baturina: "It takes everyone to achieve the ambitious goals set by the UN SDG programme: creativity, knowledge, technology and financial resources of all humanity. The BE OPEN program strives to help educate a broader public that a sustainable future depends on all of us, but I am convinced that today's younger generation is more responsible and conscious. I see incredible commitment, responsiveness and boldness in how to approach whatever problem we ask them to address."

Prior to COP28, BE OPEN also participated in the Student Energy Summit (SES 2023) in Abu Dhabi. The Summit turned out to be the world's largest youth-led energy event, providing a space for hundreds of young people to collaborate on sustainable energy solutions and connect with industry leaders in the energy and climate sectors.

As a partner of the Student Energy Summit (SES 2023), BE OPEN had the honor of addressing 650 young people from over 100 countries who gathered at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). They participated in the international, interdisciplinary program that strives to prepare young people for a career in the energy transition, showcasing underrepresented voices in the energy space and empowering young people to build meaningful relationships with peers and industry professionals.

Among the delegates to the Summit and COP28 were the winners of the latest Better Energy by Design competition, from BE OPEN, their attendance being part of the prize in addition to the subsidies.
