Madrid, March 4, 2024.- Young people show a growing interest in preparing for and taking competitive exams, as confirmed by the second edition of the study The weight of the opponent in Spain, prepared by OpositaTest. The study sheds light on the volume of opposition candidates in Spain, which continues at historical highs in the face of the foreseeable boom in public job offers that is expected in the coming years and that occurred in 2023. It also reveals the profile of people who intend to take the exam soon, most of them young people between 18 and 34 years old. One in every two Spaniards between 18 and 55 years old has taken the exam, is taking the exam or plans to take the exam, a figure that has remained at a high since last year, according to the Oppositatest study. In this edition, the study highlights the volume of new opponents and, if possible, of upcoming ones. 10% of the active-age population has begun to take the exam in the last year. Currently, 2 out of every 10 people of active age are considering taking the exam. Spaniards from Murcia, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, the Valencian Community and Andalusia have greater interest than the rest of the regions in Spain. People interested in taking the exam There are more than 5 million Spaniards and they do not see their future employment in the private sector. A large avalanche of public job offers is expected due to the generational change in the public administration, as well as the elimination of the replacement rate announced by the government just a month ago. Public employment is a way out and an option that makes their desire for stability come true. The main reason that leads young people to consider joining the opposition is the search for stability, beyond salary. A decision motivated by the difficulty they have in finding work and the precariousness of the job offers they find when finishing their studies. Almost 6 out of 10 people (56%) who are considering taking the exam soon are between 18 and 34 years old; the so-called generation Z is the group with the greatest interest in taking the exam. Of this group, the youngest, between 18 and 24 years old, make up more than half. They are mostly women, 7 out of 10, 54% declare not working, 42% have university studies and 32% have a high school diploma or less. 1 out of 4 of these young people are Andalusian. The oppositions in which they are most interested have the most numerous in terms of positions, administrative and auxiliary, health and education, although it is not surprising that they prepare several at the same time "The objective is to get a position and not so much the type of position, since once inside these young people are considering promotion or being able to change once inside to more desired positions" says Jacobo Fariña, head of communication at OppositaTest. The study reveals that 93% of these young people with the intention of taking the exam declare feeling stressed and 3 out of 10 declare feeling undervalued. or undervalued in their main occupation or job.
