The Mercantile Court No. 1 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has issued a Benefit of Exoneration of Unsatisfied Liabilities (BEPI) in the case of a woman who has thus been exonerated from a debt of 50,600 euros. The case has been processed by Repara tu Deuda Abogados, the leading law firm in Spain in the Second Chance Law. SEE JUDGMENT As the lawyers of Repara tu Deuda explain, "her state of insolvency originated in 2007, when the debtor began working part-time at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and with a salary that did not reach 700 euros a month. That same year, and after her husband's divorce, her expenses were much higher than her income and she went to live with her youngest daughter in another house. She began to use credit cards to cover all basic expenses The use of these credit cards generated high interest that the debtor could not afford, so she requested several loans to pay them off, with the intention of repaying them when her economic situation improved.She later began working full-time , but even so the income was still not enough to cover basic expenses and meet the payment of debts". The Second Chance Law came into force in Spain in 2015. It is a tool designed so that individuals and the self-employed can cancel the debts they have contracted and that they cannot assume. The progressive knowledge of its existence and the expediting of the procedures that have been approved mean that more and more people turn to it to start the process. More than 20,000 individuals and freelancers have trusted the services of the law firm. To date, the total amount canceled has exceeded the figure of 130 million euros to people who come from the different autonomous communities of Spain.
