Jake Gyllenhaal is sharing a bathroom on Broadway

No matter how big you are in Hollywood, you don’t get a trailer when you play Broadway. Heck, you’re lucky if you have your own bathroom.

Ask Jake Gyllenhaal. He and his “Sunday in the Park With George” co-star Annaleigh Ashford are sharing one at the newly reopened Hudson Theatre on 44th Street.

“For her, it’s great,” jokes the “Brokeback Mountain” star. “For me?” He shrugs.

“Sunday in the Park With George” — which features the bearded Gyllenhaal as pointillist painter George Seurat and the Tony-winning Ashford (“You Can’t Take It With You”) as his girlfriend, Dot — starts a 10-week run Saturday. The two starred in the concert version of the Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine show, which in October played just four performances at City Center.

In that theater, Gyllenhaal recalls, they had adjoining dressing rooms. And it was very clear, he says, who the audience favorite was:

“When I opened my door, there was literally no one waiting for me — and there was this long line waiting for Annaleigh!”

Adds Ashford, loyally: “Jake Gyllenhaal is really good at singing. Watch out, Hollywood!”
