The Angels added another option to their pitching depth chart by signing veteran right-hander Yusmeiro Petit to a minor league deal Wednesday.

Petit, 32, spent last season with the Washington Nationals, posting a 4.50 ERA in 62 innings over 67 games, with just one start.

Petit has started 58 major league games, including 12 as a valuable swing man with the 2014 Giants, who won the World Series. He set a major league record that season by retiring 46 straight hitters over eight games.

Petit has a career 4.58 ERA in parts of nine big league seasons with the Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, Giants and Nationals.

The Angels’ top five starters are Garrett Richards, Matt Shoemaker, Tyler Skaggs, Ricky Nolasco, Jesse Chavez. After that, the group includes Bud Norris, Petit, Alex Meyer, Nate Smith, Manny Banuelos, Vicente Padilla, Daniel Wright, Brooks Pounders and JC Ramirez.
