[updated may 6, 2020 at 16h47] It will soon be two months that the theatres of France are closed to the public and, as a first phase of déconfinement starts on the 11th of may, the operators are always ordered not to reopen their rooms. In the courtyard of the Elysee Palace on Wednesday, may 6, the minister of Culture, Franck Riester said a few words about the re-opening of cinemas in France. It will not take place before a process of reflection that will last throughout the month of may.
"We will examine at the end of may as to whether or not we can go further in the déconfinement, to go further than this limit from gathering of 10 people that will be the standard from the 11th of may. [...] It is this reflection that will be conducted in the month of may to the end of may, be able to take a number of decisions. And of course these cultural events, these places, which eventually will re-open to help put artists in front of their public, to reopen the cinema, of course that is a great expectation of our countrymen... it would have to be discussed with the mayors with the prefects and with the professionals concerned."
In other words, the cinema will not be fixed on their re-opening before the end of the month of may . It is noted that no date for reopening the potential has not been specified at this stage by the government. It is known that the second phase of the déconfinement in France is supposed to be held from June 2 but, at the time it is, it is not yet known if this date would be suitable for the re-opening of the cinema. In an interview with Le Figaro at the end of April, Richard Patry, president of the Federation nationale des cinemas français, announced that target "without any certainty, a re-opening for Wednesday, 1 July or 8 July". It will have to wait, in a context where industry players expect a lot from the part of the State to maintain their activity in a crisis that could simply sign the loss of some of them.cinemas closed
