Like baseball? Right now, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are offering their Freedom Plan again this year, which costs only $50 per seat for 10 tickets to specific games, including fireworks and giveaway nights. You can choose from among 30 games. You can buy online and they will charge you a handling fee, I paid $230 for four seats, which comes out to $5.75 per ticket, including the fee. Presidents’ Day is a good time to buy appliances, because they’re on sale at all the usual venues. 1996 PRICES
To celebrate its 21st anniversary, the Irvine Park Railroad is rolling back its ticket prices to $2 each – the original 1996 prices – only on Saturday and Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entrance to the celebration is free, parking to get into the regional park is $5 on weekends. There will be free balloons, live entertainment and more. Hay rides and a moon bounce will be available for $2 each, as well as other activities. If you can’t make it to Japan this year, stop on by your local Daiso store, which has begun to enter the Southern California market. It’s the Japanese version of a dollar store, where most items cost around $1.50. As you might expect, it’s very clean and they have all sorts of cute housewares, personal products, snacks, Japanese products like origami paper and things you never thought you would need until you walked in. Stroll Center Street Promenade in Anaheim, from Clementine Street to Anaheim Boulevard, looking for furnishings, antiques, clothing and all your basic yard sale stuff. SUMMER TROLLEY
Thanks to my colleague Fred Swegles for some good news: San Juan Capistrano will run a free cute weekend trolley this summer, running every 20 minutes around a downtown circuit that includes the mission, Capistrano Depot and other places you want to go. It will also connect with the Dana Point shuttle, which links up with the Laguna Beach trolleys. It stops at the train station too. If you’ve never taken the train to San Juan Capistrano, you should!
