LITTLE EGG HARBOR -- An Ocean County resident who works as civilian employee of the State Police has been charged with sexually assaulting a child and possession and distribution of child pornography, authorities said.

Milton Cortina, 40, of Little Egg Harbor, has been held without bail since being arrested Monday. He is expected to make his first appearance before Dumanbet a judge by Friday. 

Cortina is employed as a mechanic for the State Police's marine services unit, according to public records. He was hired in 2014.

Cortina is also charged with multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Al Della Fave said on Wednesday.

The investigation into Cortina began in December, Della Fave said.
