Bad boy and best American in tennis to square off at Garden

Jack Sock only had been in Madison Square Garden once before, and it was a good time.

Sock, the highest-ranked American in tennis, who just helped the US beat Switzerland in Davis Cup action last weekend, lost in the fourth round of the US Open last September with Giants star Odell Beckham watching his match vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Sock, ranked 19th, and Beckham met up the next day to attend the Kanye West concert at the Garden. Beckham likely will be at the Garden when it hosts its annual tennis exhibition March 6: Sock faces Australian bad boy Nick Kyrgios and Juan Martin del Porto squares off against Kei Nishikori.

“I saw him at my match and wanted to meet him,’’ Sock said at the Garden before the Knicks hosted the Lakers on Monday.

Sock, 24, also likes another eccentric in Kyrgios, the 21-year-old Australian whose erratic on-court behavior has drawn fines and suspensions.

“He’s one of my really good friends,’’ Sock said. “We spend a lot of time together at tournaments, playing a lot of ‘FIFA’ and ‘Call of Duty.’ I’ve gotten to know him well.

“One of the nicest guys you’ll meet off the court — genuine. Very competitive guy on the court. But you never know what could happen.

“He’s made some mistakes in the past. He’s a young guy. Hopefully he’ll clean it up a bit.’’
