CFL team denies working out Johnny Manziel

The Canadian Football League is investigating a report that quarterback Johnny Manziel was worked out by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Florida in January.

The Roughriders, who don't have Manziel's CFL rights, deny the report. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have dibs on Manziel, should he move north.

The Canadian blog 3DownNation first reported Thursday morning that Manziel worked out for Roughriders officials in Florida ahead the Senior Bowl.

Manziel, who won the 2012 Heisman Trophy as a freshman at Texas A&M, went to the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd pick of the 2014 NFL draft

He was a spectacular washout Browns and has had a high-profile battle with addiction.

Recently, he has said he'd like to get back into football after sitting out the 2016 season.

Gary Lawless of TSN tweeted:

from @sskroughriders GM Chris Jones on report of working out Manziel: "No one from our club worked him out. We're considering legal action."

ESPN reports that the Canadian League has said: "We are investigating. The Riders tell us that they did not work out Manziel. So at this point, it appears the report is false. Should other evidence come to light, we will deal with it accordingly."

Cue the reaction on Twitter:
